About Mount St. Mary’s
Mount St. Mary Cemetery sits at 172-00 Booth Memorial Avenue, Flushing, NY. Father O’Beime, the pastor of St. Michael Parish, established the cemetery in 1862. This serene and beautiful cemetery spans 53.6 acres. Mount St. Mary’s Cemetery belongs to the Saint John’s Cemetery Corporation, which took over the cemeteries from the Diocese of Brooklyn in 2007.
Cemetery Rules & Regulations
Like all cemeteries, Mount St. Mary’s enforces specific rules and regulations for visitor conduct and decorations. While management understands the emotions that arise from losing a loved one, they implement these rules to maintain a delicate balance between visitors and staff. Mount St. Mary’s enforces rules on decorations left at graves to preserve the cemetery’s beautiful and peaceful atmosphere. Management supports your efforts to actively remember departed loved ones while maintaining these standards.
Here are some general rules regarding visitor conduct and decorations:
- Vehicles inside the cemetery must not exceed 10 miles per hour.
- Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
- The cemetery does not allow animals on its grounds.
- Visitors may not place ornaments, statuary, shells, Christmas tree decorations, glass or crockery jars and containers, barriers, or other decorations on any grave, plot, or memorial. Cemetery authorities will remove such items without notice.
- Cemetery management cannot take responsibility for plants or decorations left at graves.
- After burial services, cemetery staff reserves the right to remove and dispose of all floral pieces.
- The cemetery prohibits all photography.
- Picking flowers or disturbing plants and shrubbery is not allowed.
- Mount St. Mary’s Cemetery removes any decorations that deteriorate and affect the cemetery’s overall beauty.
- Non-religious organization emblems are not allowed on graves or plots. However, police and firemen emblems may appear only with the cemetery authorities’ approval.
Hours of Operation
Mount St. Mary’s Cemetery opens every day from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., including holidays. The offices operate Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The office closes on Sundays and holidays.
