About Mount Hebron
Mount Hebron Cemetery opened at the turn of the 20th century and has faithfully served the local Jewish community by providing dedicated burial plots. Today, Mount Hebron Cemetery celebrates the heritage of Eastern European immigrants.
In the early 1900s, Eastern Europeans immigrated to the U.S. in greater numbers than ever before. Usually, the father or husband made the journey first, before the whole family could afford transportation and lodging. Many people initially stayed with members of their old village, since they could not afford their own housing. After saving enough money, they sent for their families and found their own accommodations.
You can reach most plots within the cemetery by a short walk along the concrete pathway.
Mount Hebron Cemetery features a memorial wall honoring deceased individuals. Families may inscribe names of loved ones there to pay tribute to their contributions, regardless of where they were interred.
The cemetery also includes a columbarium that houses the ashes of cremated individuals.
Regulations
Mount Hebron allows only one individual per grave and does not require a vault for burial.
Many families place cremated remains in private mausoleums or bury them in grave plots.
